Change of plans. The SHOT Show has been cancelled. Two weeks ago we highlighted that the SHOT Show— the industry gun and hunting trade show — would hold their annual event in Las Vegas on Jan. 19 to 22, 2021. The organizers were confident they could pull off an in-person event. Last year, more than 58,000 people descended on Las Vegas to attend. SHOT Show just announced it will cancel its 2021 event due to rising COVID-19 numbers. Read more on Gear Junkie.

Emerald Holding takes earnings beating on cancelled shows. You know them for your favorite trade shows that didn’t happen this year including Outdoor Retailer, SurfExpo and others. The company reported revenues of $8.5 million in the third quarter ending September 30 compared to revenues of $75.6 million for the third quarter of 2019, a decrease of 88.8 percent. Sad investors note, if you purchased Emerald Holding (NYSE:EEX) shares three years ago, you would have a 91% loss to show for it according to Simply Wall St. The company did note that they hosted over 90 digitally-delivered virtual events during the third quarter. And it was announced that SurfExpo will be taking place in person on January 6-8, 2021.

Colombia delivers disappointing earnings; store closures likely. For the period ended Sept. 30, the athletic and outdoor retail group reported earnings of 94 cents per share, significantly below the prior year’s earnings of $1.75 per share. Revenues also decreased 23% to $701.1 million, compared with market watchers’ forecasts of $767.13 million. While most of their stores remained open during the pandemic, the company noted that overall physical store traffic and sales trends were well below prior-year levels. Read more on Footwear News.

The Big Gear Show unveils plans for summer 2021. BGS lays out its vision for the summer 2021 event, which includes some significant changes but still has the original goal in tact: be the place where hardgoods-centric retailers can see products, try products, and buy products all in one place. REI Reports Increased Demand for Winter Gear. The pandemic has driven robust sales in outdoor equipment categories, and snow companies are hoping the trends continue for the winter. Sales of cross country skis and snowshoes are running three to four times above last year’s numbers. REI is also seeing increases in entry level winter gear. Read more on Shop Eat Surf.

RVshare CEO: Our biggest competitor is tents, not flights. Fresh off a $100 million fundraising round, recreational vehicle rental outfit RVshare is taking advantage of the collapse of flights, as people look for alternative means to take a vacation. But although CEO Jon Gray said RVshare closely monitors Transportation Security Administration statistics to gauge airline passenger volumes, the real competition lies elsewhere. Read more on Skift.

Camping World Holdings crushes estimates, initiates stock repurchase program. The company earned $1.44 per diluted share, while analyst average estimates were $1.10 per share. For the three month period ended Sept. 30, 2020, Camping World said its total new and used unit sales combined to increase by 18%. Total revenue increased by 21% compared to the prior year period. The company also increased forward guidance and initiated a new $100 million stock repurchase program. Read more on Motley Fool.

Mont. Park closed, not properly licensed for a decade. The business that operates the campground and soaking pools near Hot Springs, Mont., where a woman was found dead on Oct. 20, was ordered to close by the Lake County Environmental Health Department and has not been properly licensed by the state for more than a decade.
